January Homeschool Activities

Because of Christmas break, and a lack of snow which cancelled our sledding activity, we only had two activities in January. (Technically there were three but we skipped one...we went to Bosque del Apache as a family during the weekend and weren't quite up for a repeat trip just four days later) First we went to Erin's house again for an art project of pastels with water colors, this time creating Indian temples instead, in preparation for our book club the following week.
We did some bird watching out her back window first. Erin knows all about birds!
She is so great at instructing the kids and explaining the process to them.
June, Stella, Hattie, Anna, and Elenor
Niels is becoming more creative all the time,
Even Anders got into it. He has really been into coloring lately.

The following week we had our winter book club for The Secret Garden. It was one of my favorite activities of the year! We had a good discussion to start off, with lots of questions. Kids brought art that was inspired from the book and some dressed up.

Michelle also sent them on a scavenger hunt to eventually lead them to...
...mini gardens that they planted! Seeds, peat pellets, and water and they were able to plant their own secret gardens.

And this was probably my favorite moment of the day...is it terrible that I stopped to take a pic instead of rescuing him??
