Oh wind a-blowing all day long

I have really come to love Lubbock. I can't believe that Paul is almost done with his first year already. It really is a great place to live.

Except for the wind. It never stops. Even when the radio says it'll be a nice calm windless day, it's not true. It's always blowing. And with the amount of dirt surrounding this isolated city, it's usually very dusty wind. Doing your hair is pointless. Sweeping the front walk is futile. Picking up the tumbleweeds that are blown into your yard can always wait another week because they'll double in number by then. Cars are always dirty.

I have been driving my father-in-law's pickup recently. A few weeks ago I was strapping Hattie into her car seat. While I was perched up in the truck, a gust of wind slammed my open truck door into the vehicle next to us. Looking at the dent in the car, I estimated it would cost around $700 to fix...just what we needed. I dutifully left a note and left it on the windshield, cursing the wind for blowing the door open (which I had carefully checked would not hit the neighboring car.) Grrr. But I suppose that there is good and bad wind...because they never called me about the dent. The only thing I can figure is that the wind blew my note away.

But that's certainly the only time the wind has helped me. Other than that, it's constantly forcing me to hold my skirt down when I walk, or chase after trash at the park. It never lets up. Is it like this everywhere in the Midwest?? Does it drive anyone else insane??

Hilarious! I can imagine how frustrating that would be.... Do people spend time outside at all?

it's been so windy here today too! yuck-we hate it. I am absolutely sure it's my least favorite weather related thing...except in the summer I like a nice calm breeze...

We bought a Barbie kite on Friday and went out to fly it on Saturday. But of course there is no wind when you want there to be. But after church on Sunday, the wind blew Abby over on her way to the car. I thought it was pretty funny but she didn't.

This is Texas. We do everything bigger and stronger in Texas, including the wind! And yes, it will always be blowing (or it seems like it.) Since Lubbock is not too far from Amarillo, I have a story for you. Your grandpa Don Garner did his basic army air corp training in Amarillo. He wrote in a letter home to his parents, Gladys and True: This place is always windy. The native's say it is the only place you can stand in mud to your armpits and have the wind blow sand in your face.! He didn't like it much either.

There is another windy place that I have lived and that is Rexburg, Id. The wind was always blowing, and with the cold, it was miserable. One time with the ice and snow frozen solid, I started across the street and the wind and the slippery ice caused me to end up two blocks down the hill from where I started! My hair was a mess of unsightly curls for the two years I lived there.
Thanks for the post. I love your thoughts.

AMEN! Of course I grew up in a windy place so you'd think I'd be used to it, but it's been so long since I've lived there I've forgotten what it's like to fix your hair and have it all go to waste the minute you step out of the door.

Yes! It's so windy here too! It's hard to go outside, even when it looks so nice. I just hear the wind whistling past the house all day long...ugh.

Love the title too...reminds me of choir :)
